About The Culinary Quilter
Hi I'm Vera, The Culinary Quilter. I'm a daughter, sister, cousin, wife, aunt, professional grandma, baker, cook, quilter, gardener, fierce defender of family and friends, lover of crafts and all things creative. I first started sewing with my mother then in school, making a prom gown, with matching jacket and purse of yellow satin, the trending fabric for me. My personality being a creative, inspired me to identify myself as unique, bold and creative. Although my career was in information technology for over 30 years, after retiring over 6 years, I wanted to reignite my love of creating with fabric, melding colors, and creating from an idea to a finished piece. I'd heard of quilting, purchased books but just could not get into it, at the time, seemed so different from garment sewing. However, after an accident that forced me to be less mobile, I found quilting again, and I've been quilting over 8 years. I enjoy the calming feeling of planning, fondling fabric, yes, I do, and enjoying the texture and colors of fabric, the relaxation of cutting and piecing each piece until a block is formed, and when the quilt top is assembled, quilted, bound and labeled, I am in awe of the beautiful results. Wanting to share this love I created a Learning to Quilt Series, for those who are also interested. I never tire of lthe look of surprise, and admiration in their faces when they find the enjoyment of quilting.

Quilt Making Process
Choose a Quilt Pattern
Look for patterns labeled as “beginner” or “easy” to avoid frustration. These patterns typically involve basic shapes, minimal piecing, and straightforward instructions. Quilts come in sizes, from baby quilts to king-sized masterpieces. Beginners should start with smaller projects to avoid feeling overwhelmed.
Gather Tools and Materials
Basic supplies, Sewing Machine, fabric, tape measure, Pins, Quilt Ruler, scissors, steam iron, pressing mat, fabric or chalk marker, fabric glue, fabric starch.
Choose and Piece Fabric
The easiest method for how to choose colors for a quilt is to look at nature. Nature is the best quilt color palette generator in existence and it's all around you. You are surrounded by an endless amount of gorgeous color palettes every day.
Sandwich, Baste and Quilt
Once the quilt top is completed with borders, a sandwich consist of the quilt top, batting in the middle and a backing, all three pieces or basted together to keep from moving and then quilted with straight lines or a design.
Bind, Label & Quilt then Enjoy your Quilt
After the quilting is done, add the label and bind the quilt together, sealing the raw edged. Enjoy your quilt.
